Data loss
This is the accidental loss of important information. There are variosus ways by which people loss data. most of them are human error.
Causes of Human error
Human error.
This may involve activities such as-:
i) Accidental erasure
ii) Mishandling of Storage Devices
iii) Computer crimes
iv) Power surges
v) Viruses
i) Accidental erasure
A computer user may delete some important data from the computer unexpectedly.Sometimes the data deleted may have been comletly deleted from the computer and it may not be recovered from the recycle bin. A user may accidentally press shift delete keys and delete some useful information data hence accidental data erasure.
ii) Mishandling of Storage Devices
Another serious cause of data loss is how the storage devices are handled. the storage devices include things like the hard disk, optical disks,floppy diskets .e.t.c.
Floppy disketes are sensitive data storage devices. If exposed to magnetic fields , they are prone to lose data.
Optical devices such as CDs and DVDs are longlasting but prone to lose data if not well stored.
Cd drives may not read data from a dirty Cd or Spoilt disc.
iii) Computer crimes
Computer crimes involve things like hacking, theft and arson. Hacking is gaining access to a system or data illegally using methods such as password cracking. The other computer crime is theft. Thieves may steal a hard disk and gain acess to some information.
iv) Power surges
Power surges may cause system failure hence possible lose data. This can be reduced by the use of uninterrupted power supplies.
